Dental Trade Alliance Foundation Grant Project

The Division of Developmental Disabilities received a $25,000 grant from the Dental Trade Alliance Foundation (DTAF) of Arlington, VA for a project titled Increasing Awareness of the importance of Oral Health among Missouri Caregivers which is anticipated to impact access to dental care and promote knowledge of oral health’s impact on overall health.  The project consists of the production of three brief videos that demonstrate the importance of oral health and how to assist other people with oral hygiene.

This video is geared for people with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities, their caregivers, and their families.  It gives an overview of what a dental hygienist does and the importance of oral health as it relates to general health.  Video 1 of 3.  

Special Circumstances with Oral Hygiene for People with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities

This video gives guidance on special circumstances related to providing oral hygiene such as how to assist people with intellectual/developmental disabilities who avoid oral hygiene tasks, how to complete gum care, and how to assist people who do not take food or fluid by mouth and use a feeding tube for nutrition,  Video 2 of 3.
