General Description:
The goal of this learning experience is for the resident to increase psychiatric knowledge and develop a better understanding of committee processes, functions, and management. The resident will be an active member of the Incompetent to Stand Trial (IST) Committee, State-Level Department of Mental Health (DMH) Psychopharmacology Panel, Research Committee, P&T Committee, General Medical Staff Meeting, Trauma Informed Care Consultation Team, Pharmacist meetings, and Pharmacy Staff meetings. The resident may attend the Medical Staff committee meetings on a consultative and observational basis, provide in-services, and discuss pharmacy projects.
Purpose of Committees and Panels:
Monthly IST Committee: Biweekly IST Committee: Discuss all Incompetent to Stand Trial (IST) patients and treatment options with a multidisciplinary team. Some of the more difficult patient cases discussed in this committee are referred to the State-Level DMH Psychopharmacology Panel.
Monthly State-Level DMH Psychopharmacology Panel: The purpose of this state panel is to discuss difficult patient cases and provide treatment recommendations for all patients residing in MO DMH facilities. In addition, before any patient is found Permanently Incompetent to Stand Trial (PIST) they are referred to this panel to make sure all possible treatment options have been tried and/or considered.
Weekly Research Committee: The resident will be expected to attend this weekly meeting for their residency project. They will work with the committee members and pharmacy preceptors to establish their research project, timeline, and overall management of their project. The resident will also be expected to attend all didactic lectures provided by the committee.
Monthly P&T Committee: The resident will be expected to actively participate in this committee by providing and reporting MUE's, ADE's, formulary requests, in-services, and other projects requested by the committee.
Monthly General Medical Staff Meeting: Discuss and approve items from committees that physicians, psychiatrists, and RPD serve on. Any clinical and operational concerns are discussed as well. Lastly, psychopharmacology in-services and project discussions occur at these meetings.
Monthly Trauma Informed Care Consultation Team: The resident will be expected to actively participate in this committee by completing consultations, in-services, and other projects requested by the committee.
Monthly Pharmacist meetings: The resident will be expected to be an active participant in these meetings by preparing in-services, discussing ADEs, reporting any treatment team changes, and any other projects requested by the Director of Pharmacy or the RPD.
Monthly Pharmacy Staff meetings: Discuss weekly plans, schedules, concerns, and any other pharmacy related business.
