Southeast Missouri Mental Health Center is located in the city of Farmington, Missouri, which is approximately 70 miles south of St. Louis in an area known as the Parkland, with close proximity to several state parks. The city and surrounding communities are situated in the rolling hills of southeast Missouri.
The Farmington Public School system has been given recognition as a AAA school system in the State of Missouri. Farmington is also home to two parochial schools, St. Joseph Catholic School and St. Paul Lutheran School. Mineral Area Community College is located just five miles north of the city, and offers associate degrees, as well as opportunities to earn a four-year degree through Central Methodist University and University of Missouri-St. Louis curricula available in the evenings.
The Farmington Community Civic Center has a lap pool and leisure pool, gymnasium which can accommodate three full size basketball courts, walking/jogging track, weight room, and aerobics room. The Centene Center, a performing arts auditorium and banquet center, adjoins the civic center.
Located next to the civic center is the Farmington Water Park.
There are is a large medical facility located in the city, Parkland Health Center.
At the heart of historic downtown Farmington is the St. Francois County Courthouse, surrounded by quaint streets lined with specialty shops, financial institutions, eating establishments and other businesses. A skate park at the edge of the downtown area is operated by the Young Faith In Christ non-profit organization. Also adjacent to the downtown area is The Factory, a renovated pants manufacturing plant, which is home to a ballet studio, Ministerial Alliance Thrift Shop, Weight Watchers, retail sales booths, and a cafe, and also provides an indoor walking track. The Maple Valley Mall on the west edge of Farmington provides additional retail shopping and restaurants.
