Visiting Fulton State Hospital

We welcome visitors to Fulton State Hospital. Visits by friends and relatives play an important part in the rehabilitation of those we serve, and we welcome visitors who are here just to learn more about the hospital.  In either event, the following guidelines will make your visit more rewarding.

Each client work with their treatment team to develop their approved visitor list.

  • Please be advised that our individuals have the right to refuse visits.
  • We require identification to be able to visit, which includes valid driver’s license, passport or other government ID.
  • All visitors will participate in a search process prior to entry into the visiting room.  This may include, placing personal items in a locker, walking through a metal detector and/or having a wand style detector used and having items going into the visiting room searched.
  • Security staff will escort visitors to the location of the visit with the client and oversee the visit room during the visit. This ensures everyone’s safety.
  • Clients may not be given anything that in not pre-arranged with the client’s treatment team.  This includes food from outside vendors, personal items, etc.
  • If you need to conduct business with the client, such as signing paperwork, checks, etc., it must be pre-arranged with the treatment team.
  • Money cannot be given directly to a client. Security staff can assist the visitor to place the funds in the secure drop box for accounting to have added to the client’s account.
  • Vending machines are available and have items that may be purchased during the visit.
  • Visits may be suspended or shortened at the discretion of the facility for situations that concern the safety and security of the facility, inclement weather, etc. or if the visiting room is crowded.
  • Once the visitor has entered the visiting room for the visit, leaving the visiting room for any reason, will end the visit and the visitor must wait until the next visiting period to return.
  • Due to Victim Notification policies and Missouri Statutes family members who are also the victim of a crime may be restricted from contact with the client.  This includes spouses, children, etc.  It is recognized this can be very traumatizing for both the client and the family if contact is desired and the family is the only identified support system.
  • If you are a first-time visitor, we will provide you with the visitor rules and any additional information necessary.
